Unfinished Business
It’s been over two weeks since I posted anything... I haven’t lost interest. I even had a few entries in the hopper. But I was never able to wrap them up thanks to a cluster-suck with Verizon. On the 15th, we got the keys to our new , and the wonderful folks at Verizon decided to cut off our Internet access at the old house a week early, while turning on the access at the new house a week late. I’ll avoid the rant on the lame customer service, since I’m sure you’ve heard experienced it all before.
As for the new house, it is indeed a new house, complete with the all-white primer walls throughout, and lack of any sort of landscaping. I took care of the white walls immediately, but the landscaping may take a while. I know what I want to do, but I don’t know how (or perhaps more importantly, how much it will cost me).
There are a few nice things in this house I’ve never had in any of the places I have lived, rented, or owned...
The first is a doorbell. I know it’s silly, but I really like it. Of course my first “guests” – the Dish Network installation crew – never used the doorbell. They beat on the door until I got to it. And if Verizon is listening, I want to point out that the Dish guys were two minutes early... not a week late. I’m just sayin’.
Second is a garage. Not just any garage either. This thing is massive. The wife and I did some quick math and determined that you can fit about six of my Subarus in there. My buddy, Stephen, came over and helped me hook up the garage door opener. Again, some of you may already have one, so it’s not a big deal anymore. But for me... this thing is a blasty-blast. The garage is completely finished too, which is awesome. Well, awesome until you need to do said garage door opener installation. Thankfully Stephen was up to the challenge, and we got the thing up and running with only minimal drywall sacrifice.
Third, I have a bedroom big enough now for the normal bedroom furniture, but there’s enough room left over for my big comfy chair. I have always wanted to flop down at the end of a long day in a big chair in my bedroom... just veg out for a moment. Yes. It is everything I always thought it would be.
